Midlands Digital DT Support Centre
3D Printing Bureau Service
The West Midlands Digital DT Support Centre is custodian of a new Dimension BST 3D printer. One of the conditions attached to the provision of the printer is that it should be accessible to all schools in the West Midlands region. Use of this printer will also feature on the CAD/CAM courses run by the centre and local schools will be able to take advantage of a 3D printing bureau service. |
If you would like to make use of our bureau service, please email your Stero Lithography Files (stl) files to:
hjohnson@dandteducation.co.uk or paulgardiner@dsl.pipex.com
There will be a charge for the service to cover the cost of materials used and postage and packaging where appropriate. We will be able to give you a quote once we have processed your files and we will only print your job once you have confirmed you are happy with the price. We will then endeavour to turn your job around in a reasonable time frame and let you know what this is
Compared with powder based machines, the Dimension printer can produce quite strong models with much thinner structures. Where students have produced quite large designs it may, in some cases, be appropriate to print a model at reduced scale to reduce costs. As we develop the use of the 3D Printer, we will be able to give advice on wall thickness.
The current cost of the model and support material used is 28p/g plus postage and packaging.
